The Future is Coming

This article that I came across last week really caught my eye because of recent events in my own community.  The article was titled, “The Future of Vision and Eye care” which describes different new technology that will help people with vision problems.  This really hits home because not once but twice I have seen this technology work within my Facebook community.  The first being via a video shared in which the father of a family was colorblind for his whole life but his family saves up for this new technology is the shape of sunglass

es.  These glasses allowed him to see color for the first time in his life and he says, “it doesn’t look like mud.”  Another example is someone that I went to elementary school with have known for years.  His father has been blind for the last 20 years due to a previous illness but with technology from the company eSight he was able to see his family which includes a 6-year-old son who he’s never been able to visualize.  Watching these videos allows everyone to see the great leaps that technology is making which can help everyday people.  The only problem now is the high prices that unfortunately a lot of everyday people can’t afford, but I’m sure in time the price of technology like this won’t be as astonishing.

  1. I literally just watched one of those colorblind videos a half hour ago! It’s amazing to behold the emotion of it all. I’d like to know more about what you think about tech like that which clearly adds so much to people’s lives, but which isn’t as medically necessary as other interventions: should it be covered by insurance? I am sure that’s not the direction we are heading in with the current administration, but wow– watching videos like that makes you realize how much humanity the right interventions can bring into a person’s life…
